| Scenes from Kathi's fall vacation in the Smoky Mountains. October, 2011 | ||
Metallic skies, mud, and mayhem herald the arrival of winter at our fair abode. We've already had our first seasonal power outage with trees down on the electric lines, and the pets have officially migrated to their winter residence by the woodstove in the basement.
The fall leaves were particularly vibrant and long-lived this year. In October, Kathi took a trip to northern Georgia and the North Carolina mountains, so the fall foliage festival began early for her. As the Oregon leaves are just now stripped away by our first winter storms, she realizes that her fall probably lasted longer than her summer..
Mike has been busy in the rain with some landscaping projects. Kathi is way behind on tucking in the garden beds for the winter, and there's a rake with her name on it just waiting for a weekend day that isn't wet or freezing. She's not holding her breath.
Sierra has enjoyed taking art classes again, now that she has changed her major to graphic design. She stays busy working at a frozen yogurt store near campus. She was promoted to shift leader after only a month, and has helped them open and train employees for a new store.
We're having an unusually low-key Thanksgiving holiday this year. Rather than hosting dinner at our house, Mike is spending a week in Montana with his parents. Sierra is eating with her boyfriend's family, and Kathi is visiting the Lus. We look forward to sharing our bounty with loved ones both far and near. As the Christmas season looms near, we anticipate celebrating with Mike's family in Montana. Sierra and Kathi are keeping their fingers and toes crossed for snow!
